Birds are Amazing! The first time I visited Poothali was to find relaxation. I was in awe at the varied experiences the place offered but did not have sufficient time to explore it all. So this time I decided to come here again. Being a nature lover, birds are always high on the list of my things to see. Colourful, tuneful, and diverse, birds are truly addicting to watch.

I was told about this sleepy village Ananthanpalla, near Nileshwar, home to more than 40 different bird species that gave the impression of heaven for a Bird Lover like me. Excited, I decided to explore the place and made sure I had my camera and binoculars too.

This place, Ananthanpalla, added a totally new dimension to my visit. Even as I set foot, I could hear the twittering and cheeping of these beautiful birds. The landscapes here held entrancing beauty and seemed like a gorgeous place for the birds to live in. When it comes to birds, so many things rush to our minds – their colours, melodies, patterns, and flight. I was amazed as I just stopped to stare at these magical conceptions. Their blush seemed enigmatic as I watched them hop from one branch to another.

Some birds look so comparable to a branch that they were barely discernible even when passing by very close. Some birds that inhabit this place have an extraordinary symbiotic connection with the plant species here. They are specialized in collecting nectar from a handful of flowers only. I saw some birds walk on water. As assorted and adapted these birds are, as birds are, they are also delicate. My mind seemed boggled by the variety of hues and melodies the birds had to offer. Each bird with its distinctive song seemed like it made the best effort to sing the best.

White Bellied Sea Eagle, Hawk Cuckoo, Lesser Whistling Teal, Purple Swamphen, Hoopoe, Pied Kingfisher, Asian Fairy Blue Bird, Indian Roller, Scarlet Minivet, Emerald Dove, Bar-winged flycatcher shrike, Chestnut-tailed starlings, Forest Wagtail, I documented some of them. The overwhelming diversity of birds in Ananthanpalla, this modest countryside, makes it a must- visit birders paradise.
